Each work will be installed a few days apart and will remain on display for four weeks.

TIMES SQUARE NYC | MIDNIGHT MOMENT

Kim’s peaceful digital reflection takes over Times Square as the world persists through a pandemic that has disrupted and transformed our everyday lives, mental health, and collective well-being for almost two full years. Using the technology of our times, she creates a communal space that allows viewers to decompress.

Hoping to shift her audiences into a state of positive digital consciousness, Kim draws from a massive database of LED light photography, photoshop, binary code and dynamic software along with leading digital printers and progressive engineers to produce her vibrant colourscapes. Originally produced in collaboration with Efren Mur, Kim originally created Continuum as a large-scale sound and light installation with Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who composed healing frequency music in correlation with the energy of Kim’s visuals. A special event to experience their collaboration of light and sound live from Times Square will be announced soon.

This Midnight Moment presentation is the next stop on the Continuum world tour, which has included appearances in China, Toronto, Miami, Los Angeles, and an NFT auction curated by Steve Aoki.

CONTINUUM is a Global Movement.

TORONTO

From October 1st - 4th, the CONTINUUM World Tour will launch in Krista Kim’s hometown of Toronto, Canada. As the world begins to emerge out of a global pandemic that has disrupted and transformed our everyday lives, mental health and well-being are now recognized as crucial self-care practices for everyone.

CONTINUUM is a meditative generated animation by Krista Kim in collaboration with Efren Mur.  It will be featured in Toronto to bring healing and wellness to the community. In a symbolic act of healing and rebirth, the work will be installed at Fort York National Historic Site, transforming it from a military fortification implicated in colonial history into a light of hope for the future.

With original music composed and performed live by Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder, CONTINUUM features a free-standing video wall measuring 100 ft. long along the original lakeshore lines of Lake Ontario paired with immersive healing sound frequencies; CONTINUUM is the largest sound and light installation in Toronto’s Fort York History.

Local visitors will be invited to participate at their own socially distant leisure throughout the 4-day experience.

CONTINUUM is a light and sound video installation that creates a meditative space for the viewer.  Krista Kim produced this large-scale artwork in a slow animation for a 20-minute sequence.  This piece was made in collaboration with Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder, who has composed healing frequency music in correlation with the energy of Krista Kim’s visuals.

This immersive experience has a profound effect of calm, well-being and meditativeness.

Numerous scientific studies have proven the social, psychological, and health benefits of meditation.  And mindfulness is now becoming more mainstream as people flock to meditation classes, wellness retreats, and yoga centers.

We believe that meditation and mindfulness are essential to restoring balance within ourselves and our communities.

Krista Kim believes in the healing and transformational power of visual art + sound + meditation on an individual and social level.

Our society is experiencing digital overload; we have become addicted to our digital devices. Capturing moments on our Smart Phones and posting them on social media to earn “likes” has trumped the actual experience of life.  Social behaviour has become egocentric with more value being given to virtual popularity, than personal reflection.  As a community, we crave authenticity and self-awareness. But how can we overcome our digital overload?

Japanese Buddhist monks built Zen gardens over 1200 years ago to create a communal space that visually imparts a sense of meditativeness and mindfulness. In 2021, our communities need public art spaces that will do the same thing; spaces that allow people to decompress from the stresses of everyday life using the digital language of our times.
